"I accidentally closed the application window for Petronas scholarship, 

I have no idea how my name was shortlisted for a 2Days interview!" - eevon,2010.

"Someone just called, she said congratulations your daughter got the offer of sponsorship to study Petroleum Geoscience in UTP." -mum,2010.

Everything happened just so unplanned while I actually wanted to study something about "science", probably psychology or medicine. Since it is free education for "Don't-Know-What-Science" in an engineering university, I accepted the offer thinking there would be lots of handsome guys. 

(It turned out to be a little bit disappointing anyway. =P)

The "Don't-Know-What-Science"-Petroleum Geoscience

I guess none of my classmate nor I know what is Petroleum Geoscience in Foundation year till we entered 1st Year.
Then this geology lecturer told us "Rock moves, colliding,sliding, uplifted, subsiding,crashed on each other due to tectonic movement.". Whattt?! 

I used to think rock is rock and stone is small rock.
After 5 years, rock formation is the bla bla bla minerals, cooled, metamorphosed and weathered to become fragments of rocks. Angular-Subanglar, breccia-conglomerate, fault, fold, etc.
It was always memorization the night before exam.
And we start to talk shits whenever we came across waterfall!

The course get even more amazing when we study "Ultrasonic wave is used to scan foetus & we use seismic wave to scan for subsurface structure!".
Things get serious when Snells Law, Zoepritz Theorem, Green Functions were introduced. 

The best moments include when we actually granted for fieldtrips to places like Tasik Banding, Sarawak, Kelantan, Cameron, etc. It was so nice that we can collect souvenirs, post photo of enjoying, nasi kerabu, sleep in hotels.
That feelings when the other courses were so envy with us BUT they never know we fought leeches in jungle and pages of reports to write when we were back.

All of us with 24 different characters, be it annoying or welcomed, we get along for 5 years, sleep in the same tent, eat from the same pot, be in the same trouble and worries when kencing tikus try to take our life, gossip about lecturer... etc.
If I am given a chance to choose which course I would take, I will definitely make the same choice!
Errr...Probably No? If I was told oil price would go up and Down like now...then graduate like us would be jobless... I should have think twice!

"In university, you shall get involved and active in joining events or clubs."-peiwen,2010.

You heard that? That's how you get chances to know more lengzai seniors and collect more certificates. In another words, life get busier and meaningful. 

Chinese Orchestra

I joined Chinese Orchestra because there might be where most of the lengzai would appear. That was when my highschool friends doubt, "Did you just say eevon join orchestra?!"

Although I don't really have talent in music, I enjoyed being there, get to know more juniors from the following years. 

I still remember those years when we walked 2km from hostel to CO practice room and try to get tumpang back. Especially on a rainy night, for those meetings and practices, so the determination-challenging.

Other Events -RSF, Sedex, etc.

These events mean more meetings and sleepless nights to settle and prepare things. Throughout the events, you will definitely learnt lots of procedure and UTP management patterns. (you-know-what-i-mean)
Besides getting used to UTPian never punctual culture, you started to found some of the meetings is so unproductive.

In conclusion, being active in more events means you get friends and only excited when there is Mamak-session after work/meetings.
That's how I socialise and besides getting know & exchange about all the "UTP-Hot-News".

The Roommate Project

How we met each other?

Back in 2010...

I just got an offer to study in UTP and I heard we can choose our own roommate.

Everybody was finding potential roommate and some girls were booked.

Basically we were finding back those we met during interview Edu Camp.

I get her number from don't know which girl and called her up to be my roommate.

All she said was just 'Ooh.. OK ah...OK'.

Till the day we met on the first day of registration in UTP...

We said hi and moved all our things into our room, our very first room in Village 2.

There goes our first night together,I don't remember anything after that.

Yea, we did woke up on time for the stupid fire drill.

It was just normal days for us with MAS week and then classes started.

You are in Chemical Engineering and I am in Petroleum Geosciences.

I don't understand single things of your study 

just like how 

you don't understand those rocks & geology I am talking about.

But when you study, that did some stress for me to stop drama and study. Haha.

~Peer pressure~
*The most epic moment where you always study on bed and eyes closed.*

You cut your hair short when I was trying so hard to keep my hair long.

You have that kind of super straight & silky hair | I have that kind of super curly hair.

 I remembered the time when we are still using Sony Ericson mobile phone.

Yours were black and mine was brown.

Last time when I were young, I used to talk really epicly.

You recorded my epic sentences with that phone and played it during my birthday celebration.

Don't you lost those videos, they gonna be limited edition and worth a lots after 50 years. =P

Now we had our smartphone...

We still took videos and laugh like hell together.

Don't you delete our dubsmash videos, they worth too much. Haha.

Then you got a habit to zooomm people mouth/nose/leg/etc on screen.

And now we prefer DSLR for photo so that we can zoomm clearer...

I don't know why your strawberry slippers can withstand so many years 

while I changed my fipper from colour to colour.

And then our cups...

I started with a white cup like yours with a lid, but sadly it broke into pieces before I grad.

So, I get a new transparent one after that.

 And some of our stuffs that we keep change from time to time...

Our long-sighted power that changes through the years we studied hard.

           

Let's talk about our taste on fashion...

You have that kind of leather                                          You have that kinda flower pants but 

watch and I prefer sporty rubber                                                    I prefer simplicity on jeans.

 Yea, you are more girlish than me, fashionable too...=P

After some years, we changed our purse and laptop too.

From the small purse, we changed to bigger and more woman purse.

But the money doesn't increase any afterall.

From the small performance laptop in the past, we changes to 16 inch big screen laptop.

We still watch people over fb and youtube for new songs.

VIVA . Road to Graduation

When you had done with Final Year Project (FYP), 

you knew that road to graduation has almost come to an end.

When you said you had done with VIVA.

people will congratulate you as in you were already graduated.

No one would ask about the SHITs before VIVA...

If you get a geology topic for FYP, be prepared to go fieldworks and do sampling while dancing with mosquitoes, free hiking and jungle trekking, etc. Then your friend would be like "Wah...syok lo, can go out fieldtrip bla bla bla..." Everyone thought we were enjoying ourselves but the truth is we always come back with tired face and bruises.

Make sure you come back alive and in one piece.

After fieldtrip, then only we would be able to start our lab works.

You have to do something with those rock samples collected.

No one know we spend hours polishing the rocks into thin section slides of 0.03mm thickness, just to get a nice pictures under microscope. Anyway, most of the time it won't look nice!

Even when your hand had been so smooth polished, your rock slides were still too thick!

In order to send powder samples for XRD & XRF, no one knows we spend hours to crash real solid rock samples into powder of 212micronmetres size using just hammer.

In the report, you need to show your maps of the study area.

Using photoshop, everyone thought you are drawing for fun. I am not a pro in photoshop, it took me hours per map working from blank white sheet to a map. Line by line, point by point. 

Lecturer will always point out your scale then legends and even colours.  

You may think it looks simple with lines only, that's why some people still lost even given a map.

Now you know why geoscience people never get lost in any place even on the first time visit, simply because we draw map, we have strong directional feel. That's why sometimes you see we are not walking on the built path but lawn and anywhere, as long as we get to destination. 

By the way, even your map looks fantastic, it doesn't really significant in your FYP.

The worst is grabbing the lab slot for some high radiation and high technology lab- the XRD & XRF lab. No one know why those kids sitting outside Block17 Level2 every first day of the month since morning and midnight. Only UTP research students know how hard it is to get a slot for samples to be tested, then the machine always down for maintenance.

And the FYP got its own short dateline.

See how 'dead meat' situation we were in.

Then finally you got the lab results just few days before your VIVA.

p/s: I get it 5pm on MON and VIVA 2pm on WED.

So, I did the interpretation of this and that.

While writing your inferences in report to be hand in during VIVA, you have to do VIVA slides.

We burned the midnight oil to make sure everything is fantastic proportional to our hard works.

Even you go to VIVA with panda eyes, is okay, no worries, as long as you are not drunk.

VIVA is where you present your FYP to an experienced + professional external examiner that got no idea what you are doing. Together with the internal examiner, they like to ask questions.

And you thought as long as you able to answer then you are safe?

The hardest part is how to show the examiners that you really did understand well what you are doing. He doubt that I was uncertain with my answer but my point of view is keeping the possibilities of other answers. 

There were no 1+1=2 in geology.

I knew that my limited results and samples are not enough to give an exact confidence answer.

But the examiner don't understand. 

Calcitic Mudstone--> I explained should be deeper marine+quiet environment.

Then this guy asking as in he wants the exact GPS coordinate back in Permian, 

where exactly the rocks formed? Lagoon? etc? #HighBloodPressure

I dun see any fossils...it can be anywhere dude!

#Now you know why I prefer geophysic rather than geology. #Numbers & Data tell the truth. 

All I want to say: there is huge change in sea level from 26th m to 30th m, something happen that time and I suspect Permian-Triassic Boundary is there!

#He don't understand or purely unsatisfied.

When the VIVA is over, it feels so good to write this blog.

Road to Graduation.

Past.Present.Future

The past can never be changed no matter it was positive or negative.

Everyone shall has a past and unique of their own. Whether you are proud of it or not, the past is your only memories that can't be changed unless you can travel back in time. 

The present is what you should cherish now although it is partially built from the past and partially empty for you to fill up your choice of your future.

The future is where you should work hard and take the choice to crave it the way you prefer.

Rumors are the words by human to describe about the past of anything, anyone and anywhere besides others. Rumors changes passing from mouth to mouth. It can be true or false just like you can choose to believe it or not. Psychologically, it is the best way to do promotion as well as the sharpest knife in the world to kill. Rumors can never be muted because human search for it themselves.

We can't control rumors just like how we can't change the past. Never live ashamed with your negative past because you don't want to live with your head down for your whole life. Be grateful that you still have the present and future to prove the past is not that important anyhow. 

I admit I did rumors when people asked for it, good and bad, not of my own. But don't expect me to tell something good out of bad just like I won't fake good into bad to kill, that is lying. I don't lie especially to everyone important to me. Everyone has their own perception on what is good and bad just like you can deny the bad if you think it should be good as you knew by your yourself. 

Don't blame the mouths that fake while passing rumors because some people have poor rephrasing skill and innocent. Blame the one that ask for rumors, there must be an evil living inside the heart called 'kepo'. 

As I grew up, I knew I don't care about what people rumors about me. Whether it is fake or true, you have your choice to judge it by yourself. I don't mind but I respect. 

Perhaps I really hurt people so much? I don't know and I won't know unless I am told. If anyone out there need my 'Sorry', please do let me know. Sorry can never heal any scar but if the 'Sorry' can comfort your anger or sadness, I am glad enough to say it thousand times. 

If you know me well enough, you know that I won't take you as enemy or revenge although you ever hurt me. I am just hard mouth and soft hearten, you can't expect me to praise you just like I won't exaggerate your bad. 

You don't have to worry and I am sorry.
Everyone deserve a better future.

It's My Birthday

It's 3rd March...a normal day with quiz and class besides the whole day of CBS workshop.

Woke up late in the morning by phone alarm, just when I wanna switch the damn alarm off... eh...

..... Colourful sticky notes...??...??

..... And this scene.... OMG! WTF?

A mirror of Sticky notes... okay... and my roommate still asleep while peeking my reaction.

Since I was on a rush to the 8.30am workshop, I left everything to be checked out when I am backed in evening.

At the workshop with classmates, ...

I am really touched by all of the wishes in the morning and that's why I wanna kiss you all!

Finally, the workshop ended and glad to have you guys for dinner. =) Despite all the progress report

When I was about to switch on laptop... what?!

My roommate endless surprise. TT so touched...

I actually opened my cupboard of clothes for few times to get my clothes, and my roommate finally voice up "didn't you see something there? you opened it 3 times!"

White sticky notes on white cupboard door... that is so not invisible ok?

Anyway, these were all my roommate written touching words and she expect me to cry!

WAHAHA...

Then she ask me, "Did you read Zhen Teng's?"

Oh ya...no... where the hell is his?

So, I flipped the whole room, curtain, clothes, books, then here...

The Real Laugh Earlier Celebration

Last week, I asked them out to go for the Starbuck Buy1Free1.

And these 3 fellows threw a real failed but amusing surprise...

They actually planned to let the waitress to send the cake and they would sing Birthday song.

But what happened was the waitress walking towards our direction with a totally similar mini cake, so KZ clap and '1 2 3 Happy Birthday.. *silent*' and we laughed so hard.

...HAHAHA...

The waitress just walk pass us to the next table! The biggest Trollololol...

There gone the secret plan and failed surprise but a definitely will be remembered story!

Is okay... then we went for a drink in BB...

Great time spent there with alcohol and cards.

(We just don't have the guts to dance on stage. xD)

The Even Earliest Celebration

It was just after CNY backed from Johor.

We got a cake from Johor and planned to have it for breakfast.

Suddenly, my sis or my bro asked:"I thought your birthday coming soon? Nah...your birthday la."

Put candle and just blow la.

That is how family celebrate birthday, spontaneous lo.

Thank you to everyone whoever wished me in Facebook or face to face.

I am officially 23rd and felt grateful for fruitful 22nd.

I am going to strive for the goal of well-rounded superwoman,

CNY Picnic by the Beach

It's the 2nd day of CNY.

Instead of staying back indoor as usual, there goes the plan to have a picnic at Batu Layar beach.

It is somewhere near Desaru, 1 hour away from JB.

The long white sand beach decorated with uplifted black shale rock make it worth to visit despite the long distance away from city.

Beautiful geology at the beach.

The geology that makes great stage for photograph.

Blending in with the nature and get tanned.

Even a great escape for the old ones.

Some photography play and that's how you felt at the beach.

Watching bunch of kids playing with sand made me recalled my childhood! T.T

I used to have a bunch of cousins who build sand castle with me under the hot sun by the beach once upon a time when I was a small girl.

You must picnic by the beach!

Bring all the foods and utensils all the way from home and ...

Cut the cucumber fresh on scene...^.^

Heat your foods up on spot using the mini gas stoves! 

We even had the traditional Chinese tea hot from kettle.

(*The wind is just too strong. So, an umbrella would be great help.)

Have a sit on the thinly grassed and shaded area under the tree while enjoying the food!

Or you may bring your own comfortable chair...

That's the view you admire while having your meals.

Trust me, the more you ate, the hungrier you are. =)

Picnic was one of the often weekend activities for Malaysian as well as us when we were still small kids.

After the years, we had grown up and busy with all the academic studies or works, it became once in a blue moon activity.

But, the feeling and expectation never change!

That is Chang's family picnic style.
